Have you ever wondered what it’s like to go backstage at The Alex? Why not book one of our backstage theatre tours? Each tour will give you a unique insight into one of the most historic theatres in the West Midlands.
See the dressing rooms that have housed the stars, visit the backstage areas that are the workhouse of theatre life and finally step onstage at the Alex and in doing so join with some of the greats of English theatre*. After your tour you can join us for a free hot drink and biscuits in our beautiful Piano Bar.
*Access to the stage is not always possible due to visiting company policy. Please note that the tour covers all parts of the theatre and this includes many stairs. The use of photography or video recording is not permitted on the tour.

There are 8 wheelchair spaces available in Stalls. Access to Stalls is available via the easy access entrance on Station Street, next to Stage Door. There is an intercom and a member of staff will meet you there. Please note, this entrance opens around 30 minutes before the performance.
Access to Dress Circle, Grand Upper Circle and the Ambassador Lounge is via stairs only.
There is no lift access at the theatre.
The Alexandra offers Sennheiser infra-red listening systems.
Induction Loop Necklace
Suitable for persons wearing a hearing aid, the induction loop necklace is worn around the neck. Whilst wearing the necklace, switch your hearing aid to the 'T' setting and the sound is amplified. The necklace has an adjustable volume control.
Headset
This device amplifies sound through ear-pieces similar to regular headphones. Suitable for persons without a hearing aid.
To access the infrared system please request receiving equipment from a member of staff on the day of the show, who will contact the Access Ambassador. We do ask that these be returned after the show to a member of our Front of House staff.
Guide, hearing and
other working dogs are welcome in all parts of the theatre. If you wish to
bring your guide or hearing dog to the theatre, please advise the Box Office
when booking your tickets. Your dog is welcome to sit with you in the
auditorium however please note that some shows include special effects, e.g.
strobe lighting, smoke, pyrotechnics and loud bangs. Alternatively we can
organise for a member of staff to care for your dog during the performance and
provide them with some drinking water.
There are accessible toilet facilities on the ground floor of Stalls. These are separate, fully accessible, private, unisex facilities next to the easy access entrance door.

We recommend Q-Park, The Mailbox’s secure award winning car park, just 5 minutes walk away. For Sat Navs enter postcode B1 1RD. Alexandra customers get an exclusive rate of £6 for 6 hours, saving £5. Take your ticket along with your show ticket to the concierge desk, in the front foyer of the Suffolk Street Queensway theatre entrance at any stage during your visit to get the discount applied to your ticket.
The NCP New Street Car Park is less than a minute away from the Alexandra, for sat navs postcode is B5 4AN and NCP offer a pre-paid parking voucher for theatre customers. Simply visit our concierge desk at any stage during your visit to pay a £6 discounted parking rate and eliminate the need to queue for the pay machine at the end of the show. Terms and Conditions apply and vouchers are non refundable.
By Train
The new Birmingham New Street Station and Grand Central are now open. Together New Street and Grand Central provide world class transport links; shopping, food and drink in the heart of Birmingham City Centre, only a few steps away from the New Alexandra.
Inter City services run from all major towns and cities, including hourly services from London, into Birmingham New Street. Upon arrival at Birmingham New Street station, follow signs for the Station Street exit. The Alexandra is located just a short 3 minute walk from the station.
