Why go and see it?

Winner of 19 major awards and hailed as the theatrical event of its generation, An Inspector Calls has thrilled more than 5 million theatregoers worldwide.

JB Priestley's brilliantly constructed masterpiece powerfully dramatises the dangers of casual capitalism's cruelty, complacency and hypocrisy. Stephen Daldry's epic production highlights the play's enduring relevance.

An Inspector Calls

Written at the end of the Second World War and set before the First, An Inspector Calls is a compelling and haunting thriller. The story begins when the mysterious Inspector Goole calls unexpectedly on the prosperous Birling family home. Their peaceful family dinner party is shattered by his investigations into the death of a young woman. His startling revelations shake the very foundations of their lives and challenge us all to examine our consciences. More relevant now than ever, this is a must-see for a whole new generation.

It is great to see a new generation encountering this sobering and sadly relevant piece of theatre.
- Financial Times
An epic for our epoch, a thrillingly physical piece of theatre - with the power to stir the heart as much as the mind
- Evening Standard
The production grips and dazzles. Still heart-thumpingly thrilling
- The Times

Now world-renowned as one of Britain's leading theatre and film directors, Stephen Daldry has received Academy Award nominations for his films The Reader, The Hours, Billy Elliot and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. His multi award winning production of Billy ElliotThe Musical ran for 11 incredible years at the Victoria Palace before embarking on a national tour.
