From the producers of Elf, Shrek and The Sound of Music; York Stage bring this Broadway and West End smash hit to the Grand Opera House stage with all their usual energy, sass and style!

Production shot

Charlie is a factory owner struggling to save his family business. Lola is a fabulous entertainer with a wildly exciting idea. Both live in the shadow’s of their fathers in seemingly different, yet surprisingly similar ways. With a little compassion and a lot of understanding, this unexpected pair learns to embrace their differences and creates a line of sturdy stilettos unlike any the world has ever seen! But in the end, their most sensational achievement is their friendship.

Featuring 16 original songs by pop icon CYNDI LAUPER, a book by Tony-winning theatre legend HARVEY FIERSTEIN, direction from York Stage’s NIK BRIGGS and choreography by York Panto favourite AJ POWELL this joyous sensation is ready strut its stuff onto the Grand Opera House stage for the first time ever complete with sparkle, stilettos and whole lot of heart!

"If you want to see some West End quality musical theatre in York, this is your chance." (Arts York)

Not originally intended to be a theatre, the buildings that comprise the Grand Opera House York officially opened in 1902 with Little Red Riding Hood starring Florrie Ford. Since then it has been owned by FJ Butterworth, the Shepherd of Shambles and the India Pru Co. Ltd who spent £4,000,000 restoring the theatre to its former glory in 1987.
