The Ruling Class

BAFTA Award-winning James McAvoy (Filth, X-Men) returns to Trafalgar Transformed, following his Olivier-nominated, critically acclaimed performance in Macbeth.

Jack, a possible paranoid schizophrenic with a Messiah complex, inherits the title of the 14th Earl of Gurney after his father passes away in a bizarre accident. Singularly unsuited to a life in the upper echelons of elite society, Jack finds himself at the centre of a ruthless power struggle as his scheming family strives to uphold their reputation.

Bubbling with acerbic wit and feverish energy, Olivier Award-winning and Oscar-nominated writer Peter Barnes’ razor-sharp satire combines a ferocious mix of hilarity and horror whilst mercilessly exposing the foibles of the English nobility.

The first ever revival of this classic cult comedy is directed by Trafalgar Transformed Artistic Director, Jamie Lloyd.

There is now extremely limited availability for all performances of The Ruling Class.

Do the ruling class still hold the power, or does big business have more influence in Britain? Who rules Britain?

Join our esteemed panel of guests as they consider the questions: Do the ruling class still hold the power or does big business have more influence in Britain? Who rules Britain?

Panellists include Sturdy Beggars Theatre Company founder and journalist Alex Andreou, journalist, author and editor Rachel Johnson, bestselling author and columnist George Monbiot and Guardian columnist and former BBC social affairs editor Polly Toynbee.  The event will be chaired by ‘Bite The Ballot’ founder and CEO Michael Sani. With the General Election upon us, and as a society increasingly subjected to economic inequality and class friction, the time is now to tackle the question surrounding the distribution of power in Britain today. The Ruling Class panel debate is a free Traf Extra event for anyone with or without a ticket to The Ruling Class.
