Relaxed performances are designed to create a welcoming, enjoyable environment for everyone. Sound levels will be lowered and certain effects such as strobe lighting and pyrotechnics will be removed. It’s ideal for those who have an autism spectrum condition, people with a learning disability, parents with very young children or others who would prefer a less formal atmosphere. Sleeping Beauty - Relaxed Performance

We're grateful for the support of The National Lottery who have helped us ensure panto can return to Manchester, starring Salford-born Jason Manford as Muddles, with comic legend Billy Pearce as King Billy, musical theatre leading lady Jodie Prenger as the Enchantress and Eric Potts as the Queen in this year’s unmissable family production.

This year's production, created especially for Manchester Opera House in this unprecedented year, will be a riotously funny, one-act celebration of pantomime, packed full of comedy and laughter and will allow audience members the opportunity to come safely together and enjoy the magic of the much-loved and unique art form this festive season.

In keeping with guidance surrounding COVID-19 we will still have spaces available during the performance for those who find the action overwhelming, however for the safety of our staff and customers we will be adding extra measures. These spaces will have a limited capacity to ensure social distancing can still take place and we are unable to provide activities. We recommend that if you believe that a member of your party will benefit from this space, you bring with you any activities or items that will benefit this member of the party.

If you feel that you or a member of your party will benefit from this space, we advise that you book as close to the end of a row as possible, in order to avoid coming in close contact with other parties when leaving your seat.

If you/a member of your party will struggle to remain in your/their seat for the full duration of the performance, we ask that you remain mindful of social distancing procedures, and make use of our chill out areas if required.

Originally The New Theatre, it opened on Boxing Day, 1912. It went through several iterations, being renamed once before becoming the Opera House in 1920. It's also been used for different functions; as a cinema in WW2, then a bingo hall before reopening as a theatre again in 1984. Since, it has hosted magnificent shows like Barnum and Phantom of the Opera.
