Gypsy, a musical fable, has a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and was suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee.
Songs include ‘Everything’s Coming Up Roses’, ‘Together (Wherever We Go)’, ‘You Gotta Get a Gimmick’ and ‘Rose’s Turn’.
Gypsy has been nominated for over 70 awards and has won 6 Tony Awards and 4 Laurence Olivier Awards, it was even nominated for a Grammy Award in 2008. It has been performed in 20 cities around the world in over 6 different countries, and is Sondheim’s 3rd Musical.
It’s been 65 years since Gypsy originally opened on Broadway and 50 years since it opened in London.
Opera House Manchester
Originally The New Theatre, it opened on Boxing Day, 1912. It went through several iterations, being renamed once before becoming the Opera House in 1920. It's also been used for different functions; as a cinema in WW2, then a bingo hall before reopening as a theatre again in 1984. Since, it has hosted magnificent shows like Barnum and Phantom of the Opera.
