1950s New York, a dimly-lit sanctum of an artist’s studio. Master abstract expressionist Mark Rothko has just landed the biggest commission in the history of modern art, a series of murals for New York’s Four Seasons restaurant. But when his young assistant, Ken, gains the confidence to challenge him, Rothko faces the agonising possibility that his crowning glory could also become his undoing.
