Creative Learning at Milton Keynes Theatre aims to deliver a varied programme of theatrical events, workshops and classes for our community. From weekly classes, to show inspired workshops, schools events and our annual Stage Experience project, we create experiences for everyone no matter your abilities or desires. Here are some of our upcoming events:
Halloween Theatrical Make-up Workshops
Learning tips and tricks on creating gruesome and inspiring Halloween character make up as well as learning special effects to incorporate into your design.
Friday 20 October - £20 per person:
ENB Adult On-stage Dance Workshop
Take part in an on-stage ballet class focusing on core technical elements of flexibility, strength and alignment, combined with the artistry and expressive qualities seen in Kenneth MacMillan's Manon. Learn extracts with English National Ballet dance artists, and explore Jules Massenet’s haunting music accompanying this passionate ballet.
Following this, catch a glimpse of English National Ballet dancers taking their daily class on stage as they prepare for the performance.

ENB Live Drawing Day
An exclusive live drawing event that focuses on capturing the dancer's body in motion during a ballet class. Start the morning with an open discussion led by specialist visual artist, Heidi Wigmore, on the nature of live drawing and the various tools and techniques used to capture the moving body. Then enter the auditorium of Milton Keynes Theatre as the English National Ballet dancers take their daily ballet class for a drawing session with a unique viewpoint of the dancers on stage. In the afternoon, spend time at MK Gallery developing your initial sketches and further exploring the human body in movement. Includes professional feedback on the work created and refreshments.
Please note, open Level (previous live drawing experience may be advantageous). Participants must bring their own dry drawing materials.

Do you feel like you’re in a rut? Like you never get the chance to be creative? Have you lost inspiration? Want to try something new? This practical workshop will explore your creativity and awaken your passion for creating your own original ideas in drama, performance, writing and expression.
Saturday 15 September - £15 per person:
Theatre has evolved beyond the classic proscenium arch setting, which most of us are familiar with. It continues to develop in exciting ways, enticing increasing numbers of people into attending theatrical events. In this practical workshop, we explore alternative styles of staging theatre, including in the round, promenade and sensory theatre.
Saturday 29 September - £15 per person:
The Leading Edge Arts Project (LEAP) will be running professional audition master classes on two dates in 2018 with a West-End Musical Director. The sessions are aimed at anyone who wants to audition for drama school or become a musical theatre performer to refine their audition technique.
We ask participants to prepare one of the following options:
(a) Two contrasting musical theatre songs and 2 contrasting monologues (for those wanting to prepare for drama school auditions)
(b) Two contrasting musical theatre songs (for those wanting to prepare for auditions for roles in professional shows).

During the autumn half-term we will be running another hugely popular youth performance course led by the Leading Edge Arts Project (LEAP) a theatre company who provide workshops and courses for young people with the main emphasis on exploring the creativity and building the confidence of each student, with the opportunity to co-create work alongside a team of professionals.
LEAP uses professional actor/facilitators with extensive theatre credits from the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre, the West End and Broadway. But crucially, who also have a wealth of experience working and facilitating the work of young people. It is LEAP’s mission to create a safe space for the younger generation to be creative, experience acceptance, and authenticity without judgment.
There will be a performance at the end of the week to parents and family members of the work created.

This practical workshop will explore the techniques and teachings of theatre practitioner, Augusto Boal. Boal created the concept of the ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’, which is a form of interactive theatre intended to transform the lives of the spectators by giving them the opportunity to become spect-actors, who are encouraged to join in with the performance. This workshop gives an insightful view into the power of theatre and drama to create change in society.
Saturday 10 November - £15 per person:
Join the Milton Keynes Theatre Creative Learning Department to become one of Robin Hood's trusted Merry Men and help to steal from the rich and give to the poor!
A fun filled session suitable for all the family with an interactive tour behind the scenes of Robin Hood followed by an on stage workshop where you will need to work together as a family in order to succeed in Sherwood Forest! With interactive drama games, poems and music, who will impress Maid Marian and defeat the mean Sheriff of Nottingham?
Please note, children must be accompanied by an adult who has purchased a ticket.

Milton Keynes Theatre Tours offer an exciting way to see the theatre from a truly unique perspective. Tread the boards of our prestigious stage and experience what your favourite performers from stage, screen and the music world enjoy every time they visit.
10.30 - 11.30 - Ages 8+ (children must be accompanied by a paying adult) - £10 per person (£8 ATG Theatre Card Holders)
Chase away the January blues by coming to immerse yourself in one of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
During our week-long night school, you will be directed in a smaller scale production of this classic play, which will be performed to an invited audience in one of our backstage spaces on Saturday.
Please note, this workshop is suitable for all abilities. No experience necessary.
