Bristol Hippodrome Theatre Creative Learning
The Bristol Hippodrome’s Matinee Mingle scheme, which is supported by Bristol-based insurer National Friendly, aims to bring together lone theatre-goers aged 60* and above before certain matinee performances, giving them the chance to meet like-minded people, make new friends and enjoy a complimentary hot drink.
The programme began in collaboration with LinkAge Network, a Bristol charity which empowers older people to lead fulfilled and satisfying lives. Rhona Cockle, who attends the Matinee Mingle, says, “It’s such a nice way for people to gain confidence and meet friends in a world where being on your own can be quite daunting when you are older.”
The Matinee Mingle is free to attend and takes place an hour before selected mid-week matinee performances in The Bristol Hippodrome’s Piano Bar.
If you or someone you know would like to join our Matinee Mingle, please contact Sarah Walker on 0117 302 3310 (option 5) or at [email protected], who will keep you updated on upcoming Matinee Mingle dates and events.
Members will then need to purchase their ticket for the show they wish to see at the discounted mid-week matinee rate by calling 0844 871 3012*, at ATGTICKETS.COM /bristol* or by popping into the Box Office. Our Piano Bar is fully accessible and if you would like to purchase Access tickets, please contact 0800 912 6971.

Career Insight Mornings
There’s more to theatre than Drama…
Created for schools, colleges and youth groups, The Bristol Hippodrome’s Career Insight Mornings have been designed to offer an understanding into theextensive career opportunities in the theatreand the entertainment industry as a whole. Not all starring roles are on the stage.
Our aim is to inspire young people and highlight the various career paths in theatre; from Business, Sales, Creative Marketing, Administration and Programming, to Maintenance, Sound, Electrics, Costume, Automation and Carpentry. A career in theatre does not necessarily mean you have to study dance, singing and performance arts.
Pupils will be given a unique, in-depth tour of the backstage areas by going behind the scenes of this historic building. They will also have the opportunity to view case studies from those that work in the industry, experience lighting and sound demonstrations and to meet some of the local and touring employees. In addition, participants will have the chance to ask questions.
The session has proved to be beneficial to those who are still deciding where they are heading in terms of their career path, as well as those who know they want a career in theatre, but do not know what skills, experience and qualifications they will need to succeed.
Sarah Walker, who organises the career insight mornings says, 'There is a job in theatre for everyone, and we hope that our sessions will inspire and enthuse young people to think about the wide variety of opportunities available to them within this creative and diverse industry.'
'I expected the Career Insight Morning to be good - but it was brilliant!'
Student, Sidcot School
We can allow a maximum of 30 students on the tour with the required number of teachers to accompany them. To book a Career Insight Morning please contact Naomi Kilcoyne, Sales and Development Manager at [email protected].
