We are delighted to bring you a Night of Nostalgia with Amersham Museum; an opportunity to showcase the Cloud Swaypole Dress that appeared in the 2012 Paralympic Opening Ceremony 10 years ago. The special evening will also include memories of the ceremony shared by Tahra Zafar, the head of costume and Make-Up for both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 Paralympics. The Amersham Museum is displaying the Gravity Costume corset from the same ceremony.
The Swaypole dress was accompanied by the Whirling dancers’ dresses from the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. It was designed by Moritz Junge, overseen by the Head of costume Tahra Zafar, and inspired by voyages of discovery and reflective of clouds and oceans. Some dancers were on long poles hence the name of this costume, Swaypole.
The dress is currently on display in the front doors of the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre for the duration of the Together We Build Exhibition and was displayed by the Community Curator Christy Eastwood in association with the National Paralympics Heritage Trust.
Join us and Tahra Zafar (who works internationally making costumes, creatures, puppets and extraordinary creations for film, TV, theatre, music and events) for an insightful evening.
Please note this is a free event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Paralympic Opening Ceremony, but complimentary tickets must be booked in advance.
