The Taming of the Shrew

Arrows and Traps present

The Taming of the Shrew

Written by William Shakespeare

Adapted and Directed by Ross McGregor

‘If I be waspish, best beware my sting’

Two sisters. Both single. One deal. Kate is going to get married, one way or another.

Staged as a play within a play, where roles are swapped and lines are traded, Arrows and Traps re-imagine the classic tale of the Taming of the Shrew with a full cast gender inversion that flips the whole story on its head. The result is a fiery, visceral and brutal comedy about a scathing sexual war of attrition. This is the Shakespeare that Shakespeare would have loved - a new take on an old story, protean and thrillingly articulate; a physical spectacle of spit and sawdust, packed full with luscious, venomous wit.

Using its repertory company of actors, Arrows and Traps explore bold discoveries in new dramatic territory, creating a mercilessly physical spectacle whilst staying faithful to Shakespeare's words and intentions.

***** 'Sparky, funny and charming... superbly done'
Whatsonstage

‘[Arrows & Traps] impeccably retells Shakespeare imaginatively, resourcefully and with a newfound will to make it accessible to new generations... their productions are at once enticing, engaging and exciting, even to the old hats.’
A Younger Theatre
‘Shakespeare as it should be done: with an open mind and lots of heart.’
