For some The Sunderland Story will take you on a trip down memory lane, for others it’s an education, a chance to learn about Sunderland Football Club’s extraordinary history told through music, comedy and emotion.
The story is told through the Carter family, busy mourning the loss of a loved one, and it is during the wake that the stories of present day and days gone by are told from the heart.
The show plays beautiful tribute to all the Sunderland greats who are no longer with us and highlights how times have changed, yet the heart of Sunderland AFC is still very much the same. From founding father, James Allan and the first trophy win to being nicknamed The Bank of England Club. The Sunderland Story will take you through the early days and growth of its fanatical fanbase.
Most importantly, the show will always return to the supporters, the people who remain the football club’s foundation, it’s future and past, famed for their passion throughout the land.
This is The Sunderland Story, ha’way the lads and on with the show!
Sunderland Empire
Vesta Tilley laid the foundation stone of what is now the Sunderland Empire on 29 September 1906 and took to the stage on 1 July 1907 to officially declare the theatre open. Masterminded by two of the contemporary heads of British theatre, Edward Moss and Osward Stoll, the Sunderland Empire Theatre has undergone many changes since it opened but remains the North East’s premier entertainment venue.
