Why go and see it?

York Stage Artistic Director, Nik Briggs, is pleased to announce he will be bringing a new production of Rogers and Hammerstein's brilliant musical to York, to celebrate the show's 60th Anniversary.

BBC Radio York favourite Adam Tomlinson picks up the baton as MD once more after treading the boards himself in our 2017 production of Rock of Ages. Adam has previously been Musical Director for York Stage with our productions of Hairspray and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Not originally intended to be a theatre, the buildings that comprise the Grand Opera House York officially opened in 1902 with Little Red Riding Hood starring Florrie Ford. Since then it has been owned by FJ Butterworth, the Shepherd of Shambles and the India Pru Co. Ltd who spent £4,000,000 restoring the theatre to its former glory in 1987.
