A divided country, leadership crumbling, corruption in the air. Welcome to England.

Player Kings

Hal wasn't born to be king. Only now, it seems, he will be. His father longs for him to leave behind his friends in the taverns of Eastcheap, most notably the infamous John Falstaff. War is on the horizon. But will Hal ever come good?

Bringing together Shakespeare's two great history plays (Henry IV, parts 1 and 2) into the theatrical event of the season, Player Kings will reign over the Opera House Manchester from the 14th to the 23rd March 2024.

Originally The New Theatre, it opened on Boxing Day, 1912. It went through several iterations, being renamed once before becoming the Opera House in 1920. It's also been used for different functions; as a cinema in WW2, then a bingo hall before reopening as a theatre again in 1984. Since, it has hosted magnificent shows like Barnum and Phantom of the Opera.
