Castles have been built to defend humanity for millennia. From the desert bastion of Krak des Chevaliers in Syria to Himeji in Japan and the Maginot Line in WWII, they have inspired terror and ambition, foiled conquering forces, and been deployed as the ultimate expression of wealth, status and supremacy.

Now one of the UK’s most beloved historians, the author of bestsellers including The Templars and Powers and Thrones and the creator of the wildly acclaimed This is History podcast, Dan Jones, joins us live across the UK to reveal what the world’s greatest castles tell us about the rise and fall of empires, the resilience of people under siege and the flourishing of new ideas.
This is an unmissable journey through centuries and across continents, with stories of politics, power, and survival as you have never heard them before.
