Approved by ATG's PR & Communications Officer, David Bradbury
On Friday 26 September New Wimbledon Theatre raised a staggering £600 from their Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Cakes were baked and donated by theatre staff and the theatre opened the Piano Bar to welcome in guests for a coffee and slice of cake! The theatre also hosted a prize raffle which included tickets to see a show at the theatre. All proceeds raised from the coffee, cakes and raffle will be donated to the Merton branch of Macmillan Cancer Relief, the largest cancer care and support charity in the UK.
New Wimbledon Theatre’s Acting General Manager, Lisa Mart, had the following to say on the event: ‘We are delighted with the amount of monies NWT has raised for Macmillan Cancer Care. We would like to thank everybody who donated and helped to make this event the most successful coffee morning yet! We will continue to support this charity year on year via this event event, to help raise money that will provide practical, medical and financial support for better cancer care’.
The Macmillan Coffee Morning event started in 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning, this model has now been taken up nationally and the first National World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was in 1991, when 2,600 people registered to hold coffee mornings across the country. Since then it has raised over £75 million in total for Macmillan Cancer Support.
