Hero on and off-stage!
As if battling panto villains and ridding London’s streets of those pesky rats as the adventurous Dick Whittington in this year’s spectacular panto at the New Victoria Theatre, Woking wasn’t enough, our hero Michael Pickering has set himself a totally different challenge throughout the month of December.
Michael is doing a Marothon which consists of running at least 5K everyday in the month of December – (including Christmas Day!) – to raise money and awareness for Arthritis Research UK. Michael knows first hand how this debilitating condition affects people’s everyday lives as his Aunty was crippled with the condition to the point her body shut down. Arthritis affects one in five of the adult population in UK with 10 million people living with the condition in the UK.
Michael has certainly set himself a real challenge, amounting to 155 kilometres to run during the month at least he’s having to be in tip top fitness to cope with the freezing conditions and demands of fitting in such a run to a daily routine that is packed full with rehearsals, technical and dress runs as well as the small matter of two panto performances everyday!
Taking it in his stride, Michael is charting his progress on his Twitter page, taking a photo of his route everyday to prove there is no cheating going on! You can follow Michael on Twitter and to donate to this very worthy cause via his JustGiving page.
Catch Michael who stars alongside Britain’s Got Talent winners Ashleigh & Pudsey, TV presenter, entertainer and magician extraordinaire Stephen Mulhern and panto stalwart Eric Potts in Dick Whittington which is delighting audiences and critics alike! The show is full of all the traditional pantomime ingredients; sensational songs, a live band, magic, dazzling dance routines, magnificent slapstick comedy and bags of audience participation – Dick Whittington is guaranteed to be full of wonder to delight audiences of all ages and runs until Sunday 6 January 2013.
