Don’t forget your towel as The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Radio Show Live! speeds its way to the New Victoria Theatre, Woking for just two nights from Tuesday 26 – Wednesday 27 June with the original cast reuniting live on stage together with special guest Clive Anderson as The Voice of the Book.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy became an instant classic on its launch as a radio series and one of its most unique elements was a Narrator – The Voice of the Book – who punctuated the action by reading out Hitchhiker’s Guide Entries in a friendly if slightly quizzical way. Now Douglas Adams’s creation explodes back into life, re-born in this ground-breaking new stage production – a radio show like you have never seen before – in surround sound, and packed with laughter, robots, really wild sound effects and drinks with extremely silly names. Led by Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, Geoff McGivern as Ford Perfect, Susan Sheridan as Trillian and Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox and the voice of Stephen Moore as Marvin the Paranoid Android, the cast are re-united for these live performances bringing to life the characters written for them in highlights from the entire Hitchhiker series.
Clive Anderson joins the tour in Woking as The Voice of the Book and is no stranger to the world of radio or screen. He has starred in improvised comedy show Whose Line is it Anyway on BBC Radio 4 then later, on Channel 4 as well as being a host of his own chat-shows including Clive Anderson Talks Back, Clive Anderson All Talk. A frequent host of Have I Got News For You and QI and a Hitchhiker’s fan, Clive is the perfect candidate for narrator!
Arthur Dent is having a bad day. Both his house and his planet have been demolished. The girl he really - really - fancied is on the third arm of a two-headed alien. His best friend isn't from Guildford after all, but a small planet near Betelgeuse. He hasn't even managed to find himself a decent cup of tea. And he's still wearing his dressing gown.
The show is adapted, written and directed by Dirk Maggs, and showcases Douglas Adams’s unique, irreverent and hilarious views on everything from tea-making to towels which have won The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy an ever-growing band of devoted readers, listeners and viewers. Previously insignificant phrases like 'Life the Universe and Everything' and perfectly innocuous numbers like '42' have now entered the language as reminders of Douglas's comedic and creative genius. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Radio Show – Live! is an adventure which will introduce newcomers of all ages to Vogons, Babel Fish, Marvin the Paranoid Android and allow them to explore the unique and hilarious whole general mish mash according to Douglas Adams.
Don’t miss out and book today – and whatever you do, don’t forget your towel...
