Casting news for Blue/Orange and Medea


Brighton Theatre Royal Productions have confirmed two cast members for Blue Orange - Gerard McCarthy and Oliver Wilson. Gerard McCarthy will be featuring in major TV dramas to be broadcast later in 2012; Blue/Orange is your chance to see him first. He will soon be seen on our TV screens as Ashley Stokes in Titanic: Blood & Steel, a 12 part epic drama series charting the construction of RMS Titanic, with Sir Derek Jacobi, Chris Noth, Joely Richardson & Neve Campbell. Earlier this year he filmed brand new BBC thriller The Fall starring Gillian Anderson and has just finished filming Michael Hirst's epic new TV series Vikings starring Gabriel Byrne. He also played Rory Thompson in Belonging to Laura, a modern day adaptation of Oscar Wilde's 'Lady Windermere's Fan' which received an IFTA nomination for Best Single Drama but he is probably best known as Kris Fisher in Channel 4's Hollyoaks, a role he played for 4 years & which earned him a Best Newcomer nomination at the British Soap Awards. Gerard McCarthy was awarded Sir Kenneth Branagh's Renaissance Scholarship in 2000 to train as an actor. In 2010 he made his Shakespearean debut as Fenton in The Merry Wives of Winsor at The Globe in London directed by Christopher Luscombe. Other theatre credits include: Molière's The Miser (Lyric Theatre, Belfast); Call Me Lee (New End Theatre, London).

Oliver Wilson trained at East 15, his theatre credits include Emperor and Galilean and Alls Well That Ends Well National Theatre, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet Pilot Theatre York and National Tour, Antony and Cleopatra Nuffield Southampton, To Kill A Mocking Bird Theatr Clwyd and on tour, The RSC Poetry Festival at Stratford and London, Much Ado About Nothing Derby Live and This Child for Pilot Theatre Company at the Albany Empire and Theatre Royal York. His television and Film includes Misfits, Hollyoaks, Casualty, Groove Town and Karmic Compensation.

Blue/Orange is coming to Richmond Theatre From Tue 13 - Sat 17 Nov


Rachael Stirling will play the title role of Medea in Mike Bartlett’s new version, touring the UK this autumn, in a co-production with Headlong, Citizens Theatre Glasgow and Watford Palace Theatre.   
Rachael was most recently seen on stage in The Recruiting Officer at the Donmar Warehouse. Her other theatre credits include An Ideal Husband (Vaudeville Theatre), A Midsummer Night's Dream (Rose Theatre, Kingston), The Priory (Royal Court), Uncle Vanya and Look Back in Anger (Theatre Royal Bath). Rachael has been twice nominated for the Olivier award for Best Supporting Actress. Her television and film credits include Snow White and the Huntsman, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, Women in Love, Boy Meets Girl and Tipping the Velvet. She has just finished shooting an episode of Dr Who written specifically for her by Mark Gatiss and will next be seen on Television screens in ITV 1's The Bletchley Circle. Mike Bartlett will direct this contemporary staging of one of the most timeless and primal myths of western civilisation.  In this chilling study of passion, love and vengeance, Bartlett transforms the wronged everywoman of Greek mythology into a recognisable and fallible woman of today.
