Tonight's the Night cast swap sailing for punting in Oxford
By Stephanie Tye
Tonight's the Night may feature a song all about sailing, but two cast members swapped that for punting during their run in Oxford.
Ben Heathcote and Jenna Lee-James, who play Stuart and Mary in the show which is based on the music of Rod Stewart, headed to the Cherwell Boathouse, in Bardwell Road, to partake in the most traditional of Oxford pastimes.
After posing for local press photographers on the dock, the group all climbed into a punt and headed out on to the River Thames for some more images.
Ben said it had been great fun. 'I loved it. It was absolutely brilliant being out on the punt.'
And Jenna said they had enjoyed their time at Cherwell Boathouse so much they were hoping to take some of the rest of the cast out punting before they leave Oxford.
'It was a lot fun. I was a bit apprehensive to start when I thought that Ben would be punting and we'd be out there by ourselves but we got to sit back and relax.'
'There has always been a link between boats and theatre, sailors working on the sets and 'rigging'. Punting, like theatre going, is an iconic local pass time ideal for all the family,' he said. 'It's a common misconception that it's difficult to punt, in fact it's easy with a little instruction anyone can do it and we'll gladly (and free of charge) provide that instruction.' You can find out more about punting by visiting the Cherwell Boathouse website.
We would like to say a massive thank you to Roger and the staff at Cherwell Boathouse for their help during our visit. Without them Ben and Jenna probably would have been doing their BBC Oxford interview sopping wet!
