Since 2007, Willemijn Verkaik has played the character Elphaba in Wicked over 1,000 times, has received three major awards for playing the green witch and is the only actress to have performed the role in three languages: English, German and her native Dutch. She studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory and also briefly studied at the Guildford School of Acting.
While best known for her portrayal of Elphaba, Willemijn has also appeared in German productions of We Will Rock You, Mamma Mia ! and Aida.
At home she has made numerous concert and television appearances and can also be heard on the original German cast recording of Wicked. Willemijn has performed alongside renowned composers Stephen Schwartz, Jason Robert Brown, Andrew Lippa, Scott Alan, Pasek and Paul and many others. This year she recorded the voice of 'Elsa' for the German and Dutch language versions of Disney's Frozen.
