Actor Joe McGann is best known for his lead role as Charlie Burrows in The Upper Hand, which was broadcast on ITV between 1990 and 1996. His stage career began in 1995, when he played Eddie in the one man show, One Fine Day. In 2002 he landed the role of Alex Wells, the lead character in ITV’s Night and Day, then returned to the West End in 2004 to appear as Lenny in Of Mice and Men at the Old Vic.
The following year, he hit the stage headlines with his brothers, all three of whom respectively played Tom, Dick and Harry at the Duke of York’s Theatre. In 2003 he appeared as Grimes at the Chichester Festival Theatre in the musical adaptation of The Water Babies. He went on to star as Nathan Detroit in the UK tour of Guys and Dolls from 2006 to 2007, alongside Claire Sweeney as Miss Adelaide. He returned to television to play one of the three Magi in BBC Three’s Nativity, a modern day adaptation of the Nativity story, set in Liverpool. In 2009 Joe appeared on the BBC’s Clebrity MasterChef, reaching the semi-finals. Since 2011, he has made appearances alongside Michelle McManus on STV’s popular daytime show, The Hour, and has reported on local events on BBC’s South Today programme.Read Less
