Jo Brand is a London-born comedienne and writer. After ten years as a psychiatric nurse Jo turned to stand-up comedy and established herself in the alternative comedy circuit in London. In 2010 and 2012 Jo won the British Comedy Award for Best Female Television Comic.
In 1993 she became a regular panellist on The Brain Drain and has since become a frequent guest on a number of other topical comedy shows such as Have I Got News for You (1992-2013, QI (2003-2012) and Mock the Week (2005-2006). Jo has also been a recurring contestant in Comic Relief specials including Comic Relief does Fame Academy, Comic Relief does The Apprentice (2007), Let’s Dance for Comic Relief (2009) and the Comic Relief edition of The Great British Bake Off (2013).
Jo has also had several television series of her own including stand-up show Jo Brand Through the Cakehole (1993-1996), and also co-wrote and starred in BBC Four NHS sitcom Getting On (2009-2012), for which she won a TV BAFTA for Best Female Performance in a Comedy Role (2012).Read Less
