Jimmy Carr is an English comedian, writer, actor and television and radio presenter. Well known for his dark humour, deadpan delivery and love of one-liners, Carr moved to a career in comedy in 2000. Once he started to establish his career as a comic, he began to appear in a number of Channel 4 television shows, most notably as the host of the panel show 8 out of 10 Cats.
Carr’s first television pilot was a mockumentary, The Colour of Funny, produced whilst he was working at JC Productions with his father. He has since hosted Channel 4 game shows Distraction, Your Face of Mine?, and has presented their 100s series (e.g. 100 Worst Pop Records, 100 Worst Britons, etc). Other work includes presenting a series of Commercial Breakdown, Big Fat Quiz of the Year, hosting a US version of Distraction (for Comedy Central), and hosting the first British comedy roast show, A Comedy Roast. In 2010, he co-hosted Channel 4’s Alternative Election Night and 10 O’Clock Live. He has worked as a guest presenter for one edition of Have I Got News for You, has appeared on Never Mind the Buzzcocks twice, and has been many times on QI. A regular guest and interviewer on Loose Ends and The Fred MacAulay Show, Carr also appeared on the Royal Variety Performance in 2008.
Carr does stand-up tours continuously over the course of the year, taking only five weeks holiday off between them. He has been hugely successful both at the Edinburgh Fringe, around the UK, and with his DVDs. His 2006 tour Gag Reflex won him the 2006 British Comedy Award for ‘Best Live Stand Up’. He has been listed in the top 50 funniest acts in British Comedy (The Observer, 2003), came 12th on Channel 4’s poll for 100 Greatest Stand Ups (2007).
Carr is also a writer as well as performer, with writing credits including Bo' Selecta! (C4), Meet Ricky Gervais (C4) and material for Lily Savage and Frank Skinner. He was also among the performers at the Diamond Jubilee concert in 2012.Read Less
