Jez Butterworth is an English dramatist and director who is best known for his rock ‘n’ roll drama Mojo (1995) which was first performed at the Royal Court Theatre and won a number of prizes including an Olivier, Evening Standard and George Devine awards. He went on to write and direct a film adaptation which was released in 1997 and also went on to write and direct thriller Birthday Girl (2001) with his brother.
Other successful stage productions include The Winterling (1996), The Night Heron (2002), Parlour Song (2008) and most recently Jerusalem (2009) which premiered to critical praise, selling out at the Royal Court and winning the 2009 Evening Standard and Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards for Best Play.
