Emi Wokoma is currently playing the lead part of Tina Turner in Soul Sister the Musical, wowing critics and audiences alike with her sensational voice. She performs the role of the famous singer both at the Savoy Theatre and on the musical’s UK tour.
Whilst training at the Guildford School of Acting, she performed with its Conservatoire in a great variety of productions. These included musicals Hello Dolly! (as Dolly), Is There Life After High School, The Mystery of Edwin Drood (all 2005) and Titanic (2006). Other musical appearances include Dancing in the Streets on its UK Tour and West End showing, and in Trevor Nunn’s Porgy and Bess production at the Savoy Theatre (both in 2006). In 2009, she performed in Drive Ride Walk at Bridewell, in One Dark Night in London’s Arcola fringe theatre, and as Cindy Watkins (Dynamite) in Hairspray at Shaftesbury Theatre. In 2010, she performed in Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s Little Shop of Horrors, and in 2011 reprised the role of J’naysha in Drive Ride Walk.
Stage performances include the part of Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing in 2004, Anna in Merry Widow in 2005 and Bacchae in the play of the same title in 2007 for the National Theatre of Scotland. Television credits include a role in Trexx and Flipside in 2008 and the parts of Daphne Fox in EastEnders (2010) and Jackie Thornbury in Casualty (2011).
