La traviata tells the story of how the beautiful but fragile courtesan Violettais coerced into sacrificing her one hope of personal happiness for the sake of her lover’s reputation. A tragic and resonant tale of society and morality, it combines compelling characters with powerful, moving and instantly recognisable melodies, making it one of the most emotionally engaging and popular operas of all time.

This new production of Verdi’s masterpiece by acclaimed opera director Peter Konwitschny reaches to the heart of the opera’s themes of passionate love and tragic death with a modern and uncluttered staging, and a running time of less than two hours.

La traviata stars exciting young American soprano Corinne Winters in her European debut, rising young British lyric tenor Ben Johnson and internationally acclaimed baritone Anthony Michaels-Moore. Conductor Michael Hofstetter makes his English National Opera debut
