Actor and comedian Joe Pasquale began his career far from the entertainment industry, working at Smithfields meat market and at the Ford factory in Dagenham. It was during his brief career at a holiday camp that he entered the popular ITV talent show New Faces, in which he came second. From this moment there was no looking back. Pasquale performed in a number of live shows, including Live and Squeaky and The Crazy World of Joe Pasquale. He featured in six Royal Variety Performances and, in 2001, appeared on The Muppet Show Live in Hollywood, California. His stage acting career began in 1999, when he played the lead role in the widely acclaimed The Nerd. In 2004 Pasquale rocketed to fame when he appeared on and won the fourth series of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, throughout which he remained the bookies’ favourite to win. Since then, his showbiz career has flourished as he played Leo Bloom in The Producers, the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz as well as Muddles in Sleeping Beauty. His longest running role was as Smee in the pantomime Peter Pan, which he starred in for nine years. In 2004 and 2005, he played Jack in the Birmingham Hippodrome’s Jack and the Beanstalk, the success of which was accredited to Pasquale’s appearance. In 2006 he directed and produced his own musical, Rent-A-Ghost, which toured around the UK.
Since 2004, Pasquale has appeared on numerous television shows, including The Paul O’Grady Show, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and Jason Manford’s Comedy Rocks, and presented The Price is Right in 2006. His autobiography, Does He Really Talk Like That?! was released in 2006. He has most recently returned to the stage to play Muddles at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth.
