Streetdance goes classical with Flawless and the English National Ballet

Approved by ATG's PR & Communications Officer, David Bradbury

An incredible partnership comes to the New Victoria Theatre, Woking stage on Thu 28 – Fri 29 June for just three performances, as World Dance Champions Flawless team up with English National Ballet in their brand new show Against Time.

A fusion of streetdance, acrobatics and ballet, Against Time showcases the talents and skills of ten Flawless dancers alongside ten English National Ballet ballerinas, celebrating all that is great about dance.

Flawless are the stars of the hit movie StreetDance 3D and the sequel StreetDance 2, as well as being pioneers of the UK streetdance scene since winning the World Dance Championships. They were finalists of Britain’s Got Talent in 2009 where Simon Cowell said they were 'one of the best things I have ever seen in my life!'

English National Ballet, last at the New Victoria Theatre with the breathtaking Giselle, are one of the world’s greatest ballet companies, performing large scale, high quality classical ballet, breaking preconceptions about ballet with performances at festivals including Bestival and Latitude.

Following their performance of Peace One Day at the O2 last year, the members of Flawless including artistic director and lead choreographer Marlon ‘Swoosh’ Wallen and Jenna Lee, soloist and choreographer at English National Ballet, have joined forces once again to produce a unique piece of dance.

Jenna Lee joined English National Ballet in 2002, and was promoted to Soloist in 2008. As well as performing major roles with the Company, she has created many of English National Ballet’s more adventurous small scale dance works. In 2006, Jenna choreographed Ballet Rocks to launch Sky HD. The piece was to music by Bloc Party and featured eight dancers costumed by Giles Deacon.

Artistic director and lead choreographer Marlon ‘Swoosh’ Wallen has received awards for Flawless including Best Street Dance Group and Best Choreographed Group. Under his leadership Flawless were named UK Street Dance Champions, International Dance Champions and then crowned World Dance Champions after taking on over 50 nations from around the world in Germany. They were also the first and only group ever to get full marks from all the world judges in street dance history!

Against Time takes the audience on a thrilling journey during which the boys from Flawless and the ballerinas from English National Ballet showcase all that is extraordinary about dance. The two choreographers have worked together fusing opposing poles of dance to generate a groundbreaking dance experience, following a group of dancers through an exciting journey into a surreal world of twists, turns, trials and tribulations. Expect the unexpected in this unique collaboration.

Be inspired by the fusion of ballet and streetdance and take part in a workshop on stage. Open to school groups or individuals aged 14 – 18 years. All workshops cost £15 per person. Please email the English National Ballet’s Department of Learning learning@ballet.org.uk or call 0207 581 1245 for information and to book.
