On Friday 27 September from 10am-3pm, New Wimbledon Theatre will host a coffee morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Cakes will be baked or donated by theatre staff and there will be a staff bake-off to see who is the best baker at NWT! Everyone is welcome to attend the coffee morning and you can either pick up a cake to take-away in the foyer or catch up for a coffee, cake and a gossip in our piano bar. There will also be a raffle with a chance to win theatre tickets for one of our up and coming shows. All proceeds raised from the coffee, cakes and raffle will be given to Macmillan Cancer Relief, the largest cancer care and support charity in the UK.
New Wimbledon Theatre’s General Manager, Gavin Shuman, had the following to say on the event:
‘We are delighted to be hosting a Macmillan Coffee morning to raise monies for such an amazing cause and look forward to some good-natured competition between our various departments from Front of House to Technical. Many members of our team have been affected by cancer in some, way shape or form and we consider it an honour to be able to help raise money that will provide practical, medical and financial support for better cancer care’.
The Macmillan Coffee Morning event started in 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning, this model has now been taken up nationally and the first National World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was in 1991, when 2,600 people registered to hold coffee mornings across the country. Since then it has raised over £75 million in total for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Many celebrities have been involved with the campaign and hosted their own recipes for delicious cakes on the Macmillan website, even our forthcoming panto star Jo Brand has a recipe for Passion Cake that one theatre member will attempt to make on the day!
If you would like to come along to the coffee morning then all you need to do is turn up at the theatre with loose change and an appetite for delicious cake! We look forward to seeing you there on Friday 27 September.
