English National Ballet in partnership with Merseyside Dance Initiative is bringing its national Dance for Parkinson’s programme to Liverpool in October 2013.
The Taster Sessions will give people the chance to try out a Dance for Parkinson’s class free of charge and are a fun way to meet new friends, and to discover the themes, choreography and music of English National Ballet’s current repertoire. Carers, friends and family members are also welcome to join in the Taster Sessions. A participant involved in the Dance for Parkinson’s programme discussed the positive effects of the classes: 'It has encouraged us to try something new, exercise our bodies and minds. I know more about ballet, and to forget I have Parkinson's for a couple of hours a week has been a most positive experience too.'
Taster Sessions take place at Merseyside Dance Initiative (24 Hope Street, Liverpool, L1 9BX) on Thursday 17 October, 2pm - 4.30pm and Thursday 14 November, 2pm - 4.30pm.
Taster Sessions precede a programme of 12 weekly paid sessions commencing Thursday 23 January 2014 to Thursday 17 April 2014 based at Merseyside Dance Initiative.
Those who attend a Taster Session and /or the 12 weekly paid programme are also invited to join English National Ballet for an exclusive behind-the-scenes event with English National Ballet Wardrobe and Orchestra staff, and to watch a performance of English National Ballet’s Nutcracker at the Liverpool Empire Theatre on Thursday 21 November at 2pm, for only £10 per person. Seeing the performance and getting an insight behind-the-scenes is integral to the Dance for Parkinson’s programme, giving context to the movements and music from the dance sessions.
