Aylesbury Waterside Theatre celebrated its First Birthday Party on Thu 24 Nov with nine excited contestants and an audience of keen party goers all gripped to see who would win a special one off part in this year’s sparkling family pantomime Dick Whittington, starring Jonathan Wilkes and Gillian Wright.
The nine acts were selected from Open Auditions which took place at the Waterside earlier in the year and included several solo artists, a troupe of bellydancers and a pair of magicians.
Each act performed in front of the live audience and a panel of judges including The Bucks Herald’s news reporter Adam King, Chief Executive of the Waterside Theatre Elizabeth Adlington, and stars and co-directors of this year’s pantomime, Jonathan Wilkes and Christian Patterson. The decision was tough with every finalist proving they were worthy of their place, and the judges were astounded by the level of star quality on display.
A decision had to be made and after much deliberation the announcement was made that Tina-Louise and The Bellyrinas were the successful act that had earned a special place in Dick Whittington.
Jonny commented ‘This has been one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever been involved in making. The calibre of acts was just phenomenal and if I could, I would love to include all of the finalists in this year’s pantomime, but we had to choose one. The amount of talent on stage was amazing and I cannot think of a better way for the Waterside to have celebrated their very special first birthday.’
The judges were impressed by the colourful act, their professionalism, and gleaming smiles, and are now tasked with weaving the dance troupe into the script. The date the Bellyrinas will be starring in the show is soon to be confirmed so keep your eyes peeled!
