Aylesbury Cinderella star takes to the ring for charity

Approved by ATG's PR & Communications Officer, David Bradbury

Aylesbury's local panto funny man Andy Collins is set to be in fine shape for this year’s sparkling pantomime Cinderella having shed nearly 4 stone whilst training for a charity boxing match taking place on Fri 7 Nov at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury in aid of Stoke Mandeville Children's Ward and Caudwell Children’s charity.

Usually Andy ‘Showbiz’ Collins can be found on stage or on a TV set warming up audiences for TV shows including Celebrity Juice, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and Alan Carr’s Chatty Man, except of course, in December  when he treads the boards with us in all his sparkling panto finery!

Andy claims to live life by the rules of the 1990 Baz Luhrmann song Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)  and the line ‘Do something every now and again that scares you’ has never rung more true as he swaps the stage for the Boxing Ring for one night only!

Andy who has been training with Pegasus Gym in Aylesbury, has also recently secured a new boxing partner in the form of Ben Shephard (Good Morning Britain, Tipping Point) as the countdown commences to his boxing debut.

Father of two, Andy, is passionate about the two charities he’s supporting having directly received help from both Stoke Mandeville Hospital’s Children’s Ward and Caudwell Children’s Charity when his son Harry was born premature with severe medical complications. Andy recalls ‘At one point his mother and I were advised to come and say our goodbyes, however my boy is a fighter and thanks to an amazing hospital team from Caudwell he battled through and is now a strong and healthy  8 year old.

Trud iBeswick, Chief Executive of Caudwell Children said: ‘It is an incredibly brave thing for Andy to do and we are so grateful for his continued support.’

Showbiz pals Ant and Dec have issued a video message of support for Andy, and for all those that donate via Andy's Justgiving page there will be a chance to win one of many fantastic prizes including 4 x VIP tickets to the Jonathan Ross Show, 4 x VIP tickets to Alan Carr’s Chatty Man Show, 4 x VIP tickets to Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and 4 x VIP tickets and backstage passes to meet the cast of Cinderella.

Andy’s charity efforts don’t stop there!

Throughout the run of panto he and the cast of Cinderella will be holding bucket collections for National children’s charity When You Wish Upon A Star and local charity Florence Nightingale Hospice. We will also be launching our Rags to Riches appeal encouraging audience members to bring along unwanted clothes and Christmas presents to be donated to Florence Nightingale shops in celebration of their 25th anniversary year in Aylesbury and surrounding areas. Go on...dig deep and clear out those cluttered cupboards!
