The Liverpool Empire Theatre, built in 1925, is the largest two tier theatre in the UK, hosting the very best in touring theatrical productions including musicals, ballet, opera, comedy, pantomimes and much more. With close to ½ million attendees each year, the historic venue continues to play a major role in the heart of the city’s cultural offering.

Purpose of role: The Marketing & Communications Assistant supports the work of the Marketing & Communications team in implementing effective marketing and communications campaigns and through liaison with the media and audiences, to establish the venue as the primary regional entertainment venue. The marketing team is crucial to the success of ATG’s future ambitious vision.

  • Costs - To help deliver targets using strong compelling and cost effective options to existing and potential customers
  • Culture - To build a modern forward thinking culture within the team and create a strong data culture across the venue and wider organisation that is able to move with pace and break with tradition
  • Customer – To focus on ways to engage with customers through effective communications, use of insight and data mining techniques and market segmentation
  • Ambassador - Builds and protects key relationships with Producers, customers, external agencies, and internal colleagues

Responsibilities:

Marketing Communications

  • To support the work of the Marketing, Sales & Communication team by:
  • Assisting in planning, activating and monitoring campaign activity in order to maximise audience capacity and achieve marketing objectives
  • Working with colleagues to maintain the media archive for evaluation purposes
  • Working with colleagues to help set up, organise and, when applicable, attend first nights, photo calls, publicity events and interviews with the media in order to maintain positive external relationships
  • To establish a high corporate profile for the venue locally, nationally (where applicable) and in relevant arts publications
  • To assist in copy production, as and when required, for printed materials, newsletters, website, direct mail letters, emails
  • To help liaise with incoming companies to gather information/photographs/competition prizes for campaigns.
  • To liaise with Ticketing colleagues to maintain theatre information on the website in order to maximise marketing and communication opportunities offered by new media
  • To help ensure good communication coverage through use of traditional and online press and editorial and relevant social media and to generate content as required.
  • To distribute theatre marketing material to distribution outlets in an agreed area, to recruit new distribution outlets and to add names to the marketing database, and to monitor and maintain the display of publicity materials (print, posters etc) within the venue and off-site.
  • To attend and minute meetings as necessary

General Marketing Activity

  • To support the work of colleagues to develop the Group Sales, Travel Trade and Tourism market as applicable and to help to activate activity aimed at increasing penetration into this key target segment.
  • To engage a significantly bigger audience through the creation and distribution of digital content including social media.
  • To gather information from third-party producers and to support with the proofing of all print materials that may be used to promote theatre or its events
  • All activity will be carried out as efficiently and effectively as possible within agreed resources.
  • To log, respond and process all charity requests into the department
  • To attend training courses as required in order to further self-development
  • To complete any other delegated tasks that may assist the venue in achieving its business objectives
