While the cast of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert were encouraging the audience to 'Shake Your Groove Thing' on opening night, volunteers from Helen & Douglas House were inviting patrons to shake their spare change into collection buckets.
Before the curtain went up volunteers from the hospice, which provides hospice and palliative care to children and young people, went backstage to meet Simon Green. Simon plays Bernadette in the show and, according to Theatreworld Internet Magazine, portrays the role with 'old-school class and glamour'.
Thank you to audiences at Priscilla Queen of the Desert on Monday 13 June, who donated over £120 to the local charity.
Helen & Douglas House is the New Theatre's designated charity for 2016, and staff have been taking part in various events to raise much needed funds.
Lask week, Simon and the rest of the Priscilla cast have been singing 'Colour My World'. Earlier this month, general manager Dean Stewart and front of house supervisor Annayah Prosser got coloured themselves when they took part in the Rainbow Run, organised by the charity.
Other events New Theatre staff have been involved in have included the Riverside Stomp and a staff cake and coffee morning. Check out New Theatre's Facebook and Twitter pages to keep up-to-date with other activities the venue will be participating in, in order to support this charity.
