Nigel Kennedy

Nigel Kennedy is a British violinist and violist, with classical, jazz and klezmer amongst the various genres in his repertoire. A pupil at the Yehudi Menuhin School of Music, he later studied at the Juillard School in New York.

Nigel Kennedy Overview

Nigel Kennedy is a British violinist and violist, with classical, jazz and klezmer amongst the various genres in his repertoire. A pupil at the Yehudi Menuhin School of Music, he later studied at the Juillard School in New York.

At the age of 16, Kennedy was invited by Stéphane Grappelli to appear with him at New York's Carnegie Hall. He made his recording debut in 1984, and his 1989 recording of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons with the English Chamber Orchestra was one of the best-selling classical works ever, selling over two million copies.

He has performed for The Prince’s Trust, at the Royal Variety Performance, Royal Albert Hall, and given private performances at St. James's Palace and Buckingham Palace. Winning an award in 1997 for Outstanding Contribution to British Music at the Brit Awards, in 2001 he received the Male Artist of the Year award.
