Miriam Margolyes Overview

Miriam Margolyes (OBE) is a British voice and screen actress known for her BAFTA award-winning role in Age of Innocence (1993) and her portrayal of Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter film series.

Her theatre credits include in The Importance of Being Earnest, The Cherry Orchard, She Stoops to Conquer and as Madame Morrible in Wicked. Her Olivier nominated one-woman play Dickens’ Women (1989-) sees Miriam portray 23 female characters from Charles Dickens novels and has been staged worldwide.

Miriam’s screen credits are just as extensive with voice roles in Babe (1995), Disney’s Mulan (1998) as well as portraying a range of characters in Blackadder (1983-1988) and as Mrs Corney in the Oliver Twist (1985) mini-series and as the nurse in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet (1996).
