Michael Begley Overview

Michael’s work in theatre includes: Sweet Bird of Youth (Old Vic); If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet (Bush Theatre); The Censor (Young Vic reading); Rhinoceros and The Arsonists (Royal Court Theatre); Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Adam Geist and Mad for It (Manchester Royal Exchange); Pravda (Chichester/ Birmingham Rep); Martha Loves Michael (Ruffian/ Pleasance); The Norman Conquests (Birmingham Rep); Death of a Salesman (Library Theatre, Manchester); The Deep Blue Sea (Nottingham Playhouse); One Day in October (Riverside Studios) and Hunting Scenes From Lower Bavaria (the Gate). He also won Best Newcomer at the Manchester Evening News Theatre Awards for his roles in The Tempest, Wildest Dreams and Life of Galileo (Contact Theatre and Library Theatre, Manchester) and was nominated in the TMA Awards for Best Supporting Actor in Hobson’s Choice (Birmingham Rep/Touring Consortium/Theatre Royal Plymouth).

His television and film roles include: Bob & Rose, William and Mary, City Central, EastEnders, Switch, Being Human, Doctor Who, The Children, Silent Witness, Switch, Miss Marple - By the Pricking of My Thumbs, Wire in the Blood, In Deep, McLibel, This Life and Hillsborough. Films includes: Vacuuming Completely Nude in Paradise and the short film Dog.

Michael is also a writer and has written 10 episodes of EastEnders and three stage plays: Martha Loves Michael, The London Gandhi and The Guys.
