Kerry Ellis

Kerry Ellis has just won the 2012 Whatsonstage Award for Anthems at the Royal Albert Hall, based on her Universal Decca album.

As well as a singer, she is also an accomplished actress, featuring in Tom Hooper's 2012 film Les Miserables. On stage, she has recently played Nancy in Oliver! at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane (2011), and in 2012 played Beth in War of the Worlds on its Arena Tour.

Kerry Ellis Overview

Kerry Ellis has just won the 2012 Whatsonstage Award for Anthems at the Royal Albert Hall, based on her Universal Decca album. As a singer, she has made a number of recordings with DECCA and the BBC, and has headlined a number of events, including at the BBC’s Proms in the Park, at Manchester Opera House’s Godspell in Concert, and at the Royal Albert Hall for its Festival of Remembrance (in 2010) and Night of 1000 Voices (in 2012).

Stage work includes understudying for Eliza Dolittle in Trevor Nunn’s production of My Fair Lady, which transferred from the National to the West End’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane (2001). She was part of the original cast in We Will Rock You at the West End’s Dominion Theatre (2002), and played Ellen in Miss Saigon on its National Tour. In 2006 she played Fantine in Les Miserables at Queens Theatre, and between 2006 and 2009 gained the lead role of Elphaba in Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre in New York, gaining a Broadway.com Audience Award. In 2010 she played Nancy in Oliver! at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and in 2012 played Beth in War of the Worlds on its Arena Tour.

Ellis’ television credits include Channel 4’s Party in the Park and an appearance on Michael Parkinson in 2003, the Queen’s Jubilee Concert in 2004, ITV’s Loose Women in 2007, and the Royal Variety Performance in 2008. In 2011, she appeared in a duet with Barry Manilow at the Laurence Olivier Awards, and on ITV’s Alan Titchmarsh Show. Other screen work includes a part in Tom Hooper’s 2012 film of Les Miserables.
