Gwion Jones Overview

Gwion Jones was one of the first three boys to share the part of Oliver in the West End 2009 revival of the musical (which was first shown in 1994 at the London Palladium). Produced once again by Cameron Mackintosh, this revival was directed by Shakespeare expert Rupert Goold and choreographed/co-directed by Matthew Bourne.

To find the star for the musical, in 2008 the BBC produced a talent show television series called I’d Do Anything, hosted by Graham Norton and overseen by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Mackintosh. Whereas Nancy’s part was decided by public vote, the ‘Olivers’ performed musical tasks, as a group, and learnt tricks of the theatre trade before being judged by the panel. Jones was successful in gaining the part of Oliver. Other acting roles include A Mind to Kill and Black Silence.
