Gillian Wright Overview

Gillian Wright has had an extensive career as a stage and screen actress. Her television career started with a part as Nanny in 2002 in Series 1 and 2 of Sir Gadabout, which was nominated for a BAFTA. She has subsequently featured in many extremely popular television shows, including Holby City (2003), Heartbeat (2004), EastEnders (2004 and 2012), Coronation Street (2005), Silent Witness and The Bill (both in 2006) and Spooks (2007). Her only film appearance was in Calendar Girls in 2002, and all her radio performances have been with the BBC.

On stage, Gillian Wright made her debut at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 1990 in My Mother Said I Never Should... Skipping forward several years, in 1998 she took part in Tell Me, a Northern Stage production shown at the London’s Donmar Warehouse. In 2000, she took the title role in the National Theatre Studio’s Life and Death of Marilyn Monroe. After working with director Annie Castledine both at Chichester and the NT Studio, in 2001 she worked with her in the title role of The Mother on its Natioanl Tour, as Gail in And All The Children Cried, both at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in 2002, at Hampstead in 2003, and at the BAC and Time Out Critics’ Choice Festival in 2004. In 2005 and 2008 she worked with Castledine again, in Four by One and Yours Abundantly respectively. Most recently, she featured as the Fairy Godmother in Devonshire Park Theatre’s production of Cinderella in 2010.
