David Hasselhoff is an American actor, singer, producer and businessman, best known for his lead roles as Michael Knight in the popular 1980s US series Knight Rider and as L.A. County Lifeguard Mitch Buchannon in the series Baywatch. In 1996, Hasselhoff was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Hasselhoff started his on screen acting career with performances in the soap opera The Young and The Restless between 1975 and 1982, the role of Simon in Starcrash in 1979, and launched his singing career with guest appearances on the children’s television programme Kids Incorporated. Famously, he starred in the science-fiction series Knight Rider between 1982 and 1986. In 1991, Hasselhoff reprised his role in the television film Knight Rider 2000. Meanwhile, Hasselhoff had joined the television series Baywatch for its 1989 premiere. Although the show was initially unsuccessful and cancelled after only one season, Hasselhoff was convinced that it had great potential and revived it in 1991 as its producer. Its second incarnation was far more successful, running for ten seasons and shown in 140 countries across the world. The Guinness Book of World Records put it as the most watched TV show in the world, with over 1.1 billion viewers.
Hasselhoff’s film appearances are often self-parodic. He has starred as himself in The Sponge Bob Square Pants film (2004), DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story, and Kickin’ It Old Skool (2007), among others. He first appeared as another character on film in Adam Sandler’s film Click’, where he plays a horrible boss (2006).
Hasselhoff has also performed regularly on stage as well. He made his Broadway debut in 2000 in the title role of Jekyll and Hyde, and in 2004 played the lead role in London performances of Chicago the Musical. In 2006 it was announced that Hasselhoff would portray the director of the Nazi musical ‘Springtime For Hitler’ in the Las Vegas production of The Producers. For the 2010 Christmas season, he made his pantomime debut with First Family Entertainment, playing Captain Hook in the New Wimbledon Theatre’s production of the pantomime Peter Pan.
Hasselhoff has been involved with various talent shows, including as a judge on NBC’s America’s Got Talent (2006-2009), a performer in Dancing With The Stars (2010), on the judging panel of Britain’s Got Talent alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Michael MacIntyre (2011), and in 2012 as a contestant on The Celebrity Apprentice Australia. Furthermore, in 2009, Hasselhoff took part in "The Hoff: When Scott Came to Stay" for UK television channel Living.
