Bertie Carvel

Bertie Carvel is a British actor who studied at the University of Sussex before going on to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He performed as Jack in Revelations at the Hampstead Theatre in 2003, his first professional production.  In 2004 he took the title role in Macbeth, directed by William Oldroyd.

Bertie Carvel Overview

Bertie Carvel is a British actor who studied at the University of Sussex before going on to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He performed as Jack in Revelations at the Hampstead Theatre in 2003, his first professional production.  In 2004 he took the title role in Macbeth, directed by William Oldroyd.

 He won an Olivier award in 2012 for his performance as Miss Trunchbull in Matilda. He has since reprised this role on Broadway and has earned himself both a Tony nomination and Drama Desk Award.

Bertie has been involved in many National Theatre productions including, The Life of Galileo (2006), Coram Boy (2006), The Man of Mode (2007) and Damned By Despair (2012).

 In addition Bertie appeared in the 2012 Tom Hooper feature film, Les Miserables, in which he played Bamatabois.
